Languedoc Roussillon is an area rooted in Occitane history and offers a veritable quilt of different landscapes. Gard is a fairly Provencal area with Provencal traditions and has a local dialect which is similar to the Provencal patois. Aude and Herault are more "languedocien" - In Camargue you can still see the famous bull races and fights, whilst on the canals of Sete, Agde and Palavas-les-Flots you can witness the spectacular water jouts. In Perpignan you can follow a pilgrims procession (Sanch's Procession) every Good Friday.

Littoral (The Coast) :
214 km of fine sand constitute the Languedoc Roussillon's coast - a protected environment. The coast also countains 25 Marinas, including Port Camargue, the biggest of Europe.

Cultural Heritage :
Languedoc Roussillon's principal towns offer an insight into the cultural heritage of the region. Carcassonne with its fortified walls and Nimes with its roman monuments evoke their roman past. Montpellier reveals through its architecture and notoriety a veritable crossroads of cultural, scientific and artistic exchanges. Sete - the first Mediterranean fishing port offers a charm characteristic of fishing towns whilst Perpignan offers a glimpse of Spanish life and culture.

The area is bathed in light and offers a vast variety of different dishes from l'Aligot ; traditional dishes like Cassoulet or Taureau are a must-try as are the vast array of dishes from the Garrigue.
